Fun Facts

Did you know..

  • My little sister, Kate, came up with the name 'Yum Yums' when I asked her if she had any name suggestions for my recipe book.

  • Yum Yums is organized in alphabetical order in each section.

  • The ingredient section is organized in the order you add each ingredient (I often miss ingredients so spent the time to arrange them this way.)

  • There is a list at the back of the book showing which relatives the recipes have come from.
  • Yum Yums went from a small project of collating my Mum's recipes in March 2018. Six months later I had completed and printed a 200 page full colour recipe book.

  • I have been known in the past to mix up my tbs and tsp, so have spelled out the full word to help prevent this.

  • 'Don't forget to turn the oven off' is featured in the book and on my recipe tea towel. This is because I have often forgotten to turn the oven off after baking...
  • The Flourless Chocolate Cake (page 42) is used by my Aunty Alice and her family to celebrate each of their birthdays every year. (And she says it always tastes better the day after.)
  • Every year for Christmas, I make a big batch of Honey Biscuits (page 20) with my Mum. She makes and rolls out the biscuits while I man the decorating station. Occasionally my sister will help with decorating and will do a speed round.
  • There is more than just recipes for baked goods in Yum Yums. It includes main meals like my Dad's favourite Relish Chops (page 156) as well as the recipe to make the Tomato Relish (page 115.)

  • My Mum had to make, measure out and write down ingredients for a number of recipes as she usually makes them off the top of her head.
